Tariff Update

There has been a lot of activity regarding tariffs over the past week, resulting from the President’s statement on 23 May.   We have fielded numerous questions about what happens now and what is next following the Court of International Trade’s (CIT) decision.

Below is the current information we are working off.

  • Tariffs must still be paid today.  While they have been struck down in the Court of International Trade, an appeal has been filed and a stay granted against the halting of the current tariffs.
  • There have been no changes made to the current import process as a result of the court proceedings.

  • CBP will not currently clear containers without tariffs on entry summaries.

  • Refunds are possible, but uncertain. The legal process needs to play out further before any refund mechanism could be implemented. Should refunds have to be issued, it may take up to 18 months to receive those funds.

Some of this information has been taken from the US Wine Trade Alliance’s notice sent last night. If you would like to read the whole post, click here.
