Why We Still Run Reefer Containers During Winter
Elenteny Imports operates reefer containers all year round. Why do we run refrigerated containers during winter?
Reefer containers provide precise temperature control, ensuring stability and protecting wine from freezing or sudden temperature changes. Temperature fluctuations, even brief changes, can result in spoilage or oxidation. Without proper temperature regulation, even brief warm spells in winter can “cook” the wine, resulting in unpleasant flavors and diminished quality.
In extremely cold climates, wine faces the risk of freezing. Frozen wine expands, pushing corks out and leading to leaks or contamination. Additionally, freezing can permanently alter the wine’s flavor profile and damage bottles.
Unstable temperatures can accelerate chemical reactions, altering its aroma, taste, and texture. For wines intended to age, consistent, controlled conditions are crucial to maintain quality over time and prevent premature aging. Shipping reefer helps to regulate humidity levels, protecting corks from drying out and avoiding oxygen exposure and excess humidity. Reefer shipments also reduce the risk of bottle shock, a condition caused by excessive movement and temperature variations that can temporarily diminish wine’s quality.
Wine is a high-value product, and reefer containers provide the stability necessary to ensure it arrives in perfect condition, for wine producers, exporters, and distributors, reefer containers offer consistency and reliability across the supply chain.
