ILA: Master Contract Not Signed, Strikes imminent
There is no new information at the time of publishing that the master contract has been resolved. It is then very likely that strikes proposed by the ILA will proceed
on 1 October. The White House has confirmed it would not invoke legal powers to intervene. Any potential strike action will cause delays and disruptions at all East Coast and Gulf ports. The ILA’s Press Room is providing daily updates.
Surcharge Pricing
Oceania and South Africa
This week, Steamship lines announced new surcharges to be levied on lanes from Oceania and South Africa.
This is effective for all containers with a gate-in date of October 9th, Oceania routes will incur a Peak Season Surcharge of $1500 per container (dry and reefer). For containers with a gate-in date of October 15th leaving from South Africa, these will incur a Peak Season Surcharge of $600 per 20ft container, and $800
Surcharges for Strike Action
Some Steamship lines have also forecast that if strike action occurs on the East Coast it is likely they will seek to recover costs associated with delays to deliver goods. Watch this Space!!
