Appeals Court Rules on Tariffs

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit delivered its verdict on Friday, ruling 7-4 that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not authorize the President to impose sweeping tariffs. The decision reaffirms that tariff authority constitutionally belongs to Congress.

The practical impact remains uncertain. The court issued a temporary stay through mid-October, keeping current tariffs in place while the administration prepares its Supreme Court appeal.
