Impact of Hurricane Beryl on Port of Houston

The Port of Houston and Galveston have resumed operations with extended gate hours starting 11 July in the aftermath of Category 1 Hurricane Beryl.  ‘Beryl’ left much of Texas without power and resulted in widespread debris and flooding.  Ports closed on Monday after declaring condition ZULU in anticipation of the gale-force 94mph winds experienced during the storm.

South Africa: Severe Weather, Expect Delays

South Africa is currently experiencing severe weather in Cape Town and the regions surrounding the Western Cape.  Severe weather including heavy rain, flooding, and rough seas are impacting transport nodes and the Ports of  Cape Town, Saldanha, Port Elizabeth, and Ngqura.  Expect delays as steamship lines reroute vessels to avoid the conditions.

German Strikes

Strikes organized by The Ver.di Union concerning wage negotiations of their members are currently impacting Port operations in Hamburg and Bremerhaven.  Expect some delays as backlogs are cleared from the strike action earlier this week.  It is being reported that the Port is currently closed (July 11) to large vessels.

In preparation for suppliers closing for the holidays please give our PO Team ample notice of when an order is estimated to be ready vs the last date to collect before the closure.  Please send any new order to us at least one full week before the closure.

Our forwarders’ truck routes tend to book up quickly, days in advance at this time of year. The shorter the window between when an order is physically confirmed ready by a supplier and the number of days left to collect, we run the risk that truck routes are already fully booked.

Although we cannot guarantee every order will be collected before a closure, we will do everything possible to schedule the pick up given our limitations.
