Important highlights:
-
The pending rail strike has been resolved. Congress passed a pair of bills today that met key demands of both the union and rail companies. The initial bill was going to force the four unions who had voted against it to accept the contract in its current form, but members of the House put forward a second bill with the paid sick leave which the unions had requested, and it passed, ending the stalemate.

The port of New York and New Jersey is bustling and has become the busiest port in the US for the first time in history. This is related to rate increases affecting West Coast shipments, and ongoing fears of union strikes disabling domestic transit lines.
