Potential Transport Strike in Spain at the Beginning of July
The Spanish transport union (Plataforma Nacional Defenesa Sector del Transporte) is planning to call for a vote on June 26th to strike on July 1st, 2022. This same transport union organized the earlier strikes in March over high gas prices and working conditions. It remains to be seen if the transport union will choose to strike and, if so, whether they will rally the support of other drivers or unions in Spain after government concessions ended the March strikes. At this point the potential size and scale of disruption from a planned work stoppage is not yet known.
German Port Strike Announced
Germany’s trade union Ver.di has called for a 24 hour warning strike after the disputing parties look unlikely to reach a settlement in the fourth round of collective bargaining with port employers . The trade union has announced a 24-hour warning strike to take place on June 23rd, 2022 beginning at 6AM. This would impact container and vessel operations at the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven.
We will continue to keep you informed of the potential impact of any Spanish and German strikes on your shipments.
