After 16 years of litigation at the World Trade Organisation (WTO), this is the final step to stop the long-standing dispute and removes any justification for U.S. tariffs.  Additional details can be found here.

Regional Updates

South Africa: Shipments at Cape Town continue to experience delays due to terminal operations slowdown over COVID-19 (labor and cleaning closures).  Vessels are queuing outside the port region awaiting berthing space and some carriers are starting to omit port calls.  Read about South Africa’s ban on alcohol sales for the second time during the Covid outbreak here.

Spain: Citing disagreement over labor policies with new terminal owners, dockworkers at Bilbao port have announced strike action for three weeks, from August 3rd to 23rd, 2020.  This will not affect Elententy’s shipments from Spain which are shipped from Barcelona.

How to Plan

We encourage you to prepare for longer than usual scheduling times to work around holidays, supplier availability, and bookings.  Please reach out to us to schedule your shipments as far in advance as possible.

Distribution Updates

We continue to see a steady and encouraging order volume to off-premise accounts in our Direct Markets. Although some states are announcing partial re-openings, our warehouses have not yet announced changes to their delivery schedules or pick-up policies. We will, of course, notify you as soon as we learn more.

In the meantime, warehouses continue to operate with limited staff, resulting in delayed turnaround times for physical requests and inbounds.  FDL’s latest delivery schedule can be found here.
